The Airlie Beach Race Week is an annual event hosted by the Whitsunday Sailing Club which is celebrating it’s 30th year on 2018. It is affectionately known as ‘Australia’s Tropical Festival of Sailing’ and now attracts in excess of 100 entries and 3,000 viewers.
It was initially defined as a Cruising Classic spanning just a few days however the rapid early success and growth saw it grow into an epic Race Week. Now, a combination of on-water and onshore activities give competitors and viewers some great entertainment.
In 2018 it runs for one week from August 9th (Registration Day) through to August 16th. With a mix of buoy and island races. It is a test of crews and navigators, but most importantly, it’s a lot of fun.
