How to Get to Airlie Beach (Whitsundays)

Airlie Beach is located in the Whitsunday Region on the Central Queensland coastline, approximately 1,100km NNW from Brisbane. It is the main hub for people wanting to see the Great Barrier Reef or Whitehaven Beach (Voted the Best in the World by Lonely Planet) with several tours and activities available.

Flights to Proserpine Airport

Most travellers choose to fly into Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport in order to reach Airlie Beach. The airport is located approximately 38km from Airlie Beach and there are several options for transfers from the airport to Airlie Beach (below).

You can reach the airport from Sydney and Brisbane as follows –

From Sydney

Tigerair has flights from Sydney direct to Proserpine Airport each Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Please click here for current Tigerair flight days and times.

From Brisbane

Jetstar flies from Brisbane and Melbourne to Proserpine Airport. Flights depart from Brisbane 7 days a week and from Melbourne each Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Please click here for current Jetstar flight days and times.

Transfers from Proserpine Airport to Airlie Beach

From the airport there are several options to reach Airlie Beach. We suggest that you pre-book any services to avoid unnecessary complications.

Shuttle Services

We use a Micro Bus service that is quick to load and get away from the airport, and where we are usually the first or second stop.

Pre Booking is recommended so that you do not need to queue and that we can ensure enough seats.

Pricing $20 per person one way / $35 return (when booked at the same time).

Please note: There is no Uber or other Ride Share services in Airlie Beach, and that a taxi costs Approx $100.


Car Hire

There are numerous local hire car companies that will often allow you to pick up and leave the car at a convenient location.

Coaches / Buses

Several bus services run up and down the Queensland coast and regularly pass through Airlie Beach. Two of the more popular providers are Greyhound and Premier Transport Group.
